Student Center ideas (extra credit)

Of the ideas presented Tuesday at the Student Center input session, which seemed to you the most important? If you did not attend the session, comment here on what you would most like to see included/changed if the Student Center is renovated.

  1. I went to the presentation at 12 and I think if they want students ideas they should have started at 12 I sat there until 12:30 and none started talking or giving a presentation. However, I think there should be less dinning halls, and more places for students to hang our or visit. In order to get in the dinning hall you have to buy something you can't just sit there. Sometimes I would like to visit and not buy food. I think more studens would use these places if it were differnt

  2. I was not able to attend any of the presentations. I do, however, wish that there were places to hang or do homework. I know that there is a library, but the Student Center should have more places to go and work in groups. There should be more computers in the one room that has 3 computers. There used to be 12-15 computers, but this year they cut a lot out of there and I do not think that it was the smartest move.

  3. I as well weould like to see more user-friendly visiting places. The whole having to pay thing to get into the den should be changed. It could be that you pay once you enter or leave the actual food area. More computers, lounge space and tables placed throughout would be nice. The student center is supposed to be a place where students can gather and do things together and that is not really the case right now.

  4. I was not able to attend the presentations but I do have a few inputs. I would like to see more places where it is more comfy to just hang out and do homework. And the computers tend to not work a lot. So fix those and maybe some more of those would be nice. Make it more of where students can come and hang out and feel comfrotable in.

  5. I did not attend the meeting but after visiting with other students, these are some of the suggestions that came up:
    1) Expnad the eating area (it always seems to be full)and the cooking area(IF Armark shares the cost)>
    2) Create more areas in the student center where students may use flex dollars. Students are willing to add more dollars to flex accounts if they have places to use their flex dollars.
    3) It could be make more student friendly by holding more activities in the student center rather than in Jerde
    4) One of my friends suggested moving Java City into an addition upstairs and put the bowling alley back in Thunder's Lair
    5) Put arcade back in (flex dollars would be spent there while students hand out).
    6) Move the nurse and waiting area in counselor's center so that people who come to see a counselor aren't seen by those to see the nurse and visa versa. More privacy--its not inviting if one thinks someone sees you there and later asks what is the matter with you. In essence more privacy is needed.

  6. I did not attend the session but would like to see a place to hang out and to study. A computer lab area that has computers that work well. Alot of the times the computers there dont work. I think the eating area should be expanded as well. There is never room to eat or find room to sit. I have been to other college campuses and there student center has arcades and movie rooms. The movie room is like a mini movie theater they show new released movies and its free. I know the next two things I'm about to say is above and beyond but I have also seen bowling alleys, and an on campus place to get a haircut and to tan. The student center is a place to feel at home and should be a place where students get together and have a good time.

  7. I wasn't able to attend the meeting but I agree with many of the posts listed above. I've always thought the den was crowded so it would be nice to create a larger area to sit and eat. I also think it would be nice to create more places to hang out and study. The student center should be a warm place for students to go and do versatile things. The only times I ever go over there now are either to eat, check my mail, or go to the bookstore. I think I would go over there more if there was more to do.

  8. I was not able to get to the meeting, but I have been following the student center development closely and I echo many of the previous comments. The student center needs to have a larger dining area...and perhaps more than one dining option. I would love to see a small cafe besides the main dining area. One that students could go to at any time of day and eat--a lot like java city is now, with more food options. I also agree that the student center should be a place where students want to go hang out--right now it is not. I'm not exactly sure how to make it more appealing to students, however it would be nice if it was more inviting. with more activities and more student friendly areas. It will be interesting to see what will be done in the future.

  9. I wasn't able to attend the presentation, but I have a few ideas. Being an off campus student it would be nice if there was a place that we could sit and eat lunch that we brought from home or from the outside. Also a place where a group of kids or students could meet to study or just chat would be nice. The places available today really don't suffice. I don't really feel welcome to bring any lunch from home or wherever because there is no place to just sit and eat. That would be great!

  10. I would like to see a more of a student friendly building. Right now it looks like it should be part of a hotel confrence center. It would be nice to have more food options for people to pick form at Java.

  11. i went at noon to the presentation but left because they didnt start until much later and i had to work at 1! i think that the school needs more places to hang out with other friends, but yet still have a place to hang out and get homework done. i also think that it is silly that you cant go into the cafeteria unluss u have paid for a meal. i dont have a meal card and sometimes i see friends that are eating but i cant go and just sit with them because of the rule. i think that if we have a more bigger place to hang out and also have events i think that more students would be intersted in going there and getting their homework done

  12. I did not attend the meeting but I have a few suggestions. After living in NSU for two years, I think Student Center plays a dispensable role in NSU life. It should be both a cafeteria and a study lounge, so I would like to see more places where to just hang out and to study. I think the eating area should be expanded as well for it mostly seems to be full and crowded. Also, I think Student Center is supposed to be a place where students can get together and work in groups, more facilities, lounge space and tables placed throughout here would be nice. In addition, wish that there were more places to post campus information and deal or work advertisements. I believe it will make both our study and shopping easier.
